Book Review by Chris "A Man of Good Hope" by Jonny Steinberg

The story of Asad Abdullahi from Somalia as told by the author. Asad’s escape during unrest in the 1990’s from his hometown, Mogadishu and ultimately settling in Blikkiesdorp in Cape Town. “What an adventure!” That’s how I would rephrase the title.

The book is about the girl who grew up without a mother but ended up being a wife and mother of six children. The setting starts in the Eastern Cape  and moves to Cape Town as she looks for greener pastures. She becomes successful and helps other women to succeed in life.

This is an account of a childhood in Eastern Guinea in 1930. The child grows up watching his father smelt gold and making jewellery. As he grows up he experiences that there is a snake guiding his father's success. This is respected in the home. He tells of his African traditions and circumcision rituals. This book is ideal for persons interested in African culture.

Recommended to readers who enjoy history. It is well researched. A page-turner. Very graphic when explaining events and individuals. A detailed book of the last days.

This book is written with a warm heart. From his childhood, to bodybuilding, his life as a family man, Hollywood movies and into politics. His story inspired me a lot - how he worked hard to achieve his success. Young bodybuilders could be inspired and motivated by his stories. Highly recommended as it's a fun read and full of insight.

This book is factual based and full of information of the Roman Empire, more than Attila the Hun. I don't think this should be a biography because it doesn't talk a lot of Attila's life

Beautiful, deceptively simple memoir of the author's life as a small in the 50's living in Brakpan, an old location. Experiencing the Apartheid struggle through the eyes of a child. Very funny as well.
